17MB

As some of you may know, I turned 17 yesterday. It was a fairly uneventful day...up at 5:15 after a little more than 5 hours' sleep, work 8 hours, then come home, nap, and open presents and watch Step Up 2 as it pours rain outside! Fun times...

Anyway, I'm off to Thunder Bay sometime tomorrow, and then Winnipeg the next day. I'm not sure about the Internet situation out there, if I get a chance I'll post an update but you can look for some photos and maybe a trip report upon my return. 'Till then, good birding!

Coop and WW's

Yep, finally got two more birds for the SSM year list, both of which I should have had long ago... Yesterday, a Cooper's Hawk gave a nice flyby at work, and today had a flock of about 15 calling White-winged Crossbills fly over just after our lunch break. Sweet! That finishes off the (regular) finches and hawks for the year!

I also had a Solitary Sandpiper fly over the house yesterday calling, my 95th yard bird.

Site pics

My photos from the spring and my NC trip are up on my website - the link's on the sidebar! There are some good ones...and some not so good ones, but I think there are more of the former. There are also a few that didn't work, as I ran out of space on the site...I'll have to go through and delete all the really crappy photos.

Solitary Sandpiper joined the work list today, with a pair making their alarm notes from across the street.

Some recent stuff

Seems amazing, but I'm still adding new birds to my work list - the ones I see at the golf course while I'm working there. Eastern Wood-Pewee, Warbling Vireo, and Broad-winged Hawk have all made first appearances in the last few days. Post-breeding dispersal is under way, so who knows what other things might show up in the next week?

Fall already?

No, it isn't actually fall...but it's definitely getting there, even though it seems like summer just began. I already had my first fall migrant - a Nashville Warbler passing through the golf course as I was working yesterday morning. There was also a House Finch hanging around for a day last week...a pretty good sighting up here in the Sault, although they're pretty common if you go south about 200 km. Other than that, I haven't been out since June. I'm off to Manitoba on July 27, I might get a post or two in before then though. I'm hoping to add a few more birds to the list in between visiting relatives! I'm not sure if I'll have internet, but look for a post upon my return! (around August 8 sometime).
